More houses of worship are replacing projectors with LED video walls. LED walls are brighter than projectors, work with stage lighting, show lyrics and sermon content clearly from every seat, and can last for many years when maintained well.
Start with the viewing distance
The shortest viewing distance in the room should decide the pixel pitch. As a general rule for video content:
- Seats closer than 3 m (about 10 ft): use P2.0–P2.5.
- Most sanctuaries with seating from 3–8 m: P2.5–P3.9 is the practical range.
- Large multi-purpose halls with distant seating: P3.9–P4.8 can still look sharp.
Small-pitch modules cost more per square metre, so buying a smaller P2.5 wall is usually wiser than buying a larger P4 wall when the front rows are close.
Size depends on content, not just wall space
For song lyrics and sermon points, a screen that feels balanced with the stage is better than the largest screen the wall can hold. Many churches choose a main centre wall with one or two side walls. Keep at least 30–50 cm of service access behind the screen, and plan the weight load on the structure before installation.
Brightness and refresh rate
An indoor church wall normally needs 600–1,200 nits. Very bright walls waste energy and make black levels look grey in a dim room. A refresh rate of at least 3,840 Hz is preferred when cameras are used for livestreaming, because it reduces banding and flicker in the video feed.
Realistic budget expectations
Discussions in 2026 church technology groups usually quote a range of roughly USD 15,000–50,000 for a small-to-medium installed video-grade wall, with larger sanctuary installations reaching much higher. The price depends on pixel pitch, square metres, processor, mounting structure, audio-visual integration and local labour. Get an itemised quotation that separates screen, processor, structure, installation and spares.
Questions to ask the supplier
- Which pixel pitch do you recommend for my closest seat distance?
- Is the wall indoor-rated and quiet enough for a worship service?
- What warranty, spare modules and after-sales response time are included?
- Can the supplier provide a reference installation of a similar size?
LED video walls are a long-term investment. A slightly conservative specification with good structural planning and reliable after-sales support usually serves a church better than pushing for the finest pitch on the market.
